Press Release #1: Green Hive Project Kick-Off: Enhancing Sustainability in Vocational Education and Training

Thurles, Ireland, 27 April 2023 - The Green Hive Consortium proudly announces the official kick-off of its mission to transform the way learners prepare for the green transition. Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, the Green Hive Project brings together five entities from across Europe to develop a European platform-based ecosystem for sustainability education known as the "Green Hive."

The Green Hive Project consortium comprises the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest (Ireland), Lascò (Italy), Femxa (Spain), KEAN (Greece), and Team 4 Excellence (Romania). Together, they are committed to enhancing the capacity of VET providers and learners to embrace sustainability education and catalyze the green transformation.

The Green Hive Project introduces two key components: "The Hive" and "Green Combs." "The Hive" is an open and cross-sectoral long-term cooperation network that fosters innovation, continuous improvement, and co-creation in sustainability education. In contrast, "Green Combs" are localized hubs for sustainability education established within VET providers. These hubs will serve as a nucleus for networking and cooperation among VET providers, companies, universities, civil society organizations, and professional associations, all united to address sustainability challenges.

Key Project Outcomes Include:

  • A Methodological Framework: Facilitating the transfer of local experience, knowledge, and innovation, while promoting collective actions to co-create solutions for sustainability using the European Sustainability Competence Framework "GreenComp."
  • Toolkit for Green Combs: Providing VET providers with comprehensive resources, including guidelines and canvases to establish and manage internal hubs for sustainability education.
  • Educational Resources: Equipping Green Combs with materials such as guidelines, micro-learning videos, workshop scenarios, and project-based learning experiences in the four competence areas of GreenComp.
  • The Green Hive Platform: A digital hub connecting the Green Combs and offering capacity-building opportunities, knowledge transfer spaces, and co-creation activities for members. By 2025, it is expected to host and connect at least 15 local hubs and engage 200 VET learners across 5 countries.

The Green Hive Project consortium has embarked on this journey with great enthusiasm and determination. The kick-off meeting, held at the TUS Thurles Campus in April 2023, marked the beginning of an exciting collaboration among the partner organizations. During the meeting, the consortium reviewed the project roadmap and discussed strategic plans for the upcoming semester, including in-depth research on sustainability education in VET, methodological framework development, and validation processes.

The Green Hive Project is committed to transparent communication, active collaboration, and the collective success of its mission. As the project advances, we invite stakeholders, educators, and interested parties to visit our project website at greenhiveproject.eu for more information or to get in touch with us. Together, we are shaping a sustainable future through education.
